Nova Zaii (pronounced “Nova Z-eye") is an electronic producer, drummer, educator, and experience designer from Chicago. While completing two degrees in Performing Arts Technology and Jazz Studies at the University of Michigan, Zaii invented a touchless instrument called the Nova Portals.

He successfully patented and has performed the Portals in a variety of contexts pushing innovation including TEDx, Kavi Gupta Chicago, Hermês, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Jazz Festival, NFT NYC, and more.

His solo show consists of a blend of live electronic music, Dj’ing, original compositions, the remixing of familiar sounds, electrifying drumming, and spirited movement as he engages the touchless, inter-dimensional frequencies of the Nova Portals.

In 2016, he cofounded the electronic-jazz group, The JuJu Exchange, which released its debut album “Exchange” in 2017 that reached the number one Jazz Album streaming position on Apple Music. He has collaborated with visionary artists across generations and genres including KESSWA, aja monet, Shara Nova, Vic Mensa, Prefuse 73, Derrick Hodge, Julian Davis Reid, Nico Segal, Chance the Rapper, Wendell Harrison, Kaleigh Wilder, Marcus Elliot, Tank & the Bangas, and many more brilliant creatives.

Zaii’s vision “is to usher the listener into a zone of boundless creativity and creative perception, through which identity, purpose, and essence are vividly witnessed. Blessings.”
